Usefulness of the Modified Videofluoroscopic Dysphagia Scale in Choosing the Feeding Method for Stroke Patients with Dysphagia

چکیده
Introduction: The Videofluoroscopic Dysphagia Scale (VDS) is used to predict the long-term prognosis of dysphagia in patients with strokes. However, inter-rater reliability VDS was low a previous study. To overcome mentioned limitations VDS, modified version (mVDS) created and clinically applied evaluate its usefulness choosing feeding method for stroke dysphagia. Methods: videofluoroscopic swallowing study (VFSS) data 56 were collected retrospectively. We investigated presence aspiration pneumonia selected method. also evaluated correlations between mVDS method, after stroke. Univariate logistic regression receiver operating characteristic analyses analysis. Results: (Cronbach ? value) total score 0.886, which consistent very good reliability. In all dysphagia, supratentorial subgroup, infratentorial scores statistically correlated (p < 0.05) 0.05). Conclusions: can be useful scale quantifying severity it tool clinical setting studies interpreting VFSS findings Further greater number various etiologies are required more generalized applications mVDS.

Usefulness of Early Videofluoroscopic Swallowing Study in Acute Stroke Patients With Dysphagia
Objective To demonstrate the usefulness of early videofluoroscopic swallowing study (VFSS) and to investigate change patterns in dietary methods in stroke patients with dysphagia. Methods The VFSS was performed within 7 days of stroke onset in neurologically stable patients. The patients were divided into three groups according to type of brain lesion: cortical lesion (CL), subcortical lesion...

OBJECTIVE To investigate the inter-rater agreement using the Videofluoroscopic Dysphagia Scale (VDS). METHOD The present study was designed as a multicenter, single-blind trial. A Videofluoroscopic Swallowing Study (VFSS) was performed using the protocol described by J.A Logemann. Thick-fluid, pureed food, mechanically altered food, regularly textured food, and thin-fluid boluses were sequent...

Introduction: Swallowing dysfunction complicates acute strokes in 25-32% of cases and directly affects patientschr('39') prognosis and recovery. Dysphagia complicates the course of acute strokes through its potential of the development of chest infection, nutritional problems, and dehydration. Dysphagia is also an independent predictor of respiratory morbidity and mortality in acute stroke. In...

CONTEXT Videofluoroscopic swallowing study is a dynamic exam and allows the evaluation of the complete swallowing process. However, most published studies have only reported alterations in the oropharynx and pharyngoesophageal transition, leaving the analysis of the esophagus as a secondary goal. OBJECTIVES The goal of this study was to investigate the prevalence of alterations in the esophag...
